M.A. (Martin) Lay Leaves the AirCare Program

On April 30, 2010, Martin Lay, officially stepped down from his position as President & CEO of the AirCare program.  He is leaving AirCare to be the Director of Access Transit for Coast Mountain Bus Company.

Martin has been with AirCare since Day One, central in its development and implementation.  Martin began his career as AirCare's Manager of Operations before eventually becoming the General Manager and then President & CEO. His leadership and guidance in the early days of AirCare were instrumental in ensuring the program survived in the face of mounting opposition, eventually becoming one of the most sophisticated and effective vehicle emission inspection programs in North America.

Martin's tenure with AirCare saw the program reduce vehicle generated-pollution in this region by a cumulative total of over 700,000 tonnes, making it one of the key emission reduction measures in Metro Vancouver's Air Quality Management Plan. He has also been a tireless champion of AirCare, always happy to speak to the public on the merits of the program as well as fostering a positive relationship with AirCare's business partners and stakeholders. No problem was too great nor too small to receive Martin's utmost attention.

Martin will truly be missed by everyone associated with the program, but not forgotten, as he has left in place an AirCare team that mirrors his own dedication, honesty and compassion.

On behalf of Envirotest Canada and our stakeholders, AirCare staff would like to thank Martin for his nearly 20 years of service to the program and wish him continued success in the future with Access Transit.

Mow Down Pollution

The 10th annual "Mow Down Pollution" program is currently underway right across Canada.  Summerhill Impact in partnership with Home Depot encourages Canadians to reduce greenhouse gas and smog-forming emissions by replacing their old, inefficient two- and four-stroke gas-powered lawn mowers and other lawn and garden equipment in exchange for an instant rebate of up to $100 towards selected eco-friendly alternatives.

Since 2001, a total of 34,027 mowers and trimmers have been recycled, resulting in more the prevention of 1,100 tonnes of greenhouse gas and smog forming emissions from being released into the atmosphere.

"Mow Down Pollution" runs now until May 2 at Home Depot stores across Canada.   For more information on "Mow Down Pollution" visit www.mowdownpollution.ca
