Help Us Celebrate Earth Day (April 22) and Clean Air Day (June 7)

On Saturday April 22, 2000, five million people in sixty-four countries will celebrate Earth Day. It’s the largest environmental event in the world. Earth Day’s mission is to improve the state of the environment by motivating and helping individuals to take positive environmental action. Earth Day asks us to consider if "we are part of the problem...or part of the solution."
In Vancouver and the Fraser Valley, residents are showing their determination to improve the environment. AirCare is one initiative supported by the public that is helping to improve our air quality by reducing vehicle emissions. It is just one of a number of initiatives to improve air quality included in the Greater Vancouver Regional District’s Air Quality Management Plan.
The British Columbia Lung Association and AirCare have teamed up to promote environmental awareness on Earth Day by creating a series of advertisements that express the importance of clean air. These ads were recently seen in a special feature for Earth Day in the Vancouver Sun and The Province on Wednesday, April 19.
In addition, the AirCare program will be working to educate the public on Clean Air Day, which is scheduled to be celebrated on Wednesday, June 7. Clean Air Day is a national awareness event developed to educate the public about the importance of clean air, and its effects on personal health and the environment.
Both the British Columbia Lung Association and the AirCare program support initiatives that help to improve our environment.
