Changes to AirCare program take effect January 1, 2007
(Jan-01-2007)
Effective January 1, 2007, the AirCare program is introducing a more customer-focused program designed to target only those vehicles most likely to have emissions defects and exempt more of the newest model year vehicles from testing. The new program includes enhancements that ensure AirCare continues to keep pace with recent innovations in emissions systems technology, and continues to have a significant impact on reducing harmful vehicle emissions in our region.
Following are the changes to the program effective January 1, 2007:
AirCare Test Fee Structure
The test fee for 1992 and newer model year vehicles is $45.
The test fee for 1991 and older model year vehicles is $23.
All vehicles are charged $23 for a re-inspection.
Model Year Exemptions Extended to Seven Years
In 2007, only 2000 and older model year vehicles require an inspection.
Biennial OBD Test for 1998 and Newer Vehicles
Eligible 1998 and newer model year vehicles are subjected to a scan of their On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) system. The OBD system continuously monitors the condition and operation of key emission control systems and emissions-related components in the vehicle.
Closure of the Burnaby and South Surrey AirCare Inspection Centres
The AirCare Inspection Centres in Burnaby and South Surrey/White Rock have been closed permanently.
Reduction of Test Network from 42 Lanes to 32 Lanes
One lane has been closed in each of the Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, North Vancouver, Richmond, and South Vancouver stations.
Pressurized Gas Cap Test to include 1996 and 1997 Vehicles
AirCare performs a pressurized gas cap test on 1975 to 1997 model year vehicles.
