AirCare to Provide CO2 Information to Motorists
(June 03 2008)
Burnaby, BC - Since 1992, the AirCare program has been successful at reducing smog-forming emissions produced by the cars and trucks we drive. To celebrate Canadian Environment Week, AirCare will begin providing motorists and Lower Fraser Valley residents with important CO2 information on inspection reports and through AirCare's website.
Starting June 2, 2008 motorists will notice a new section on the AirCare Vehicle Inspection Report that calculates each vehicle's annual CO2 production. CO2 or carbon dioxide is a normal result of the combustion of transportation fuels and the main greenhouse gas (GHG) produced by human activity. In addition, AirCare's website has been updated with a CO2 calculator that compares the fuel consumption and tonnage produced by a cross section of several vehicles as well as practical tips on how to reduce an individual's CO2 contribution.
"With the issue of climate change and reducing one's carbon footprint becoming an important issue for British Columbians, this is an opportunity to educate Lower Fraser Valley motorists and residents on their vehicle's CO2 contribution and possible ways to reduce it " says Martin Lay, Chief Executive Officer of the AirCare program.
Motorists interested in their vehicle's CO2 production can have their vehicle tested at one of AirCare's ten inspection centres or can visit www.aircare.ca/
This new campaign by the AirCare program complements the provincial government's LiveSmart initiative by educating British Columbians on their GHG emissions so they can then make informed choices to help reduce them.
The AirCare program would like to acknowledge the British Columbia Ministry of Environment, Clean Air Research Fund, Environment Canada, the Fraser Valley Regional District, Metro Vancouver and TransLink for their valuable contribution to this project.
