AirCare To Begin Testing 2002 Model Year Vehicles
(Dec-01-2008)
Burnaby, BC - The AirCare program currently exempts light-duty vehicles from an emissions inspection until they are seven model years old. Vehicles that are 2002 and older will require an AirCare test as a condition of re-licensing in 2009.
Eligible 2002 model year vehicles will receive a scan of their On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) system. The OBD system continuously monitors the condition and operation of key emission control systems and emissions-related components in the vehicle. Motorists are urged to have their AirCare inspection well in advance of their insurance renewal in case the vehicle's OBD system is not ready for inspection, or it fails inspection and requires repairs. If your 2002 model year vehicle's licence and insurance expires in January 2009, having your vehicle inspected now will leave you plenty of time prior to renewal to have any problems addressed.
