Vacuum hoses, valves, and the charcoal canister should first be visually inspected for any signs of damage or leakage. Next, the technician should check for a saturated charcoal canister by monitoring CO emissions ahead of the catalyst while blocking the purge hose from the charcoal canister. If measured CO drops by more than 1%, the canister is saturated and will need to be replaced (charcoal canisters cannot be repaired).
