- If You Can't Find Your Vehicle . . .
-
Practically all light-duty vehicles sold in Canada from 1977 to 2010 are in our database. However, your model might not be included in the database for one of the following reasons:
- The vehicle was not originally sold in Canada. There may be a similar or equivalent vehicle that was sold in Canada that you can use instead, but to be certain of getting the right incentive value calculation please contact the Scrap-It Program office to tell us exactly what vehicle you are looking for.
- The vehicle is in a vehicle classification other than light-duty. If you are looking for a full-size truck or van it may not be listed because its weight rating takes it outside of the light-duty vehicles that are listed in the fuel consumption guides on which this calculator is based. There may be a lighter equivalent listed that you can use instead, but to be certain of getting the right incentive value calculation please contact the Scrap-It Program office to tell us exactly what vehicle you are looking for.
- The vehicle manufacturer did not submit fuel consumption data to Natural Resources Canada, or submitted it late so that it is only included in the next model year after the vehicle was first available.
- The vehicle is so new that we haven't obtained the manufacturer's data yet. If the new vehicle you want to buy does not appear in the calculator, please let us know what it is, so that we can obtain its specifications and make sure it is included without delay.
If the vehicle you are interested in is not listed in our database, contact the Scrap-It Program office to let us know, and to receive further instructions.

Step 1
First, click one of the two options to indicate whether your OLD VEHICLE is older than 1977 model year. If you indicate that your OLD VEHICLE is between 1977 and 1995, you will also need to provide the year, make, and model. See Tips For Entering a Valid Vehicle Description (Year, Make and Model) below for more details.
Step 2
Next, enter the year, make, and model of your desired REPLACEMENT VEHICLE. See Tips For Entering a Valid Vehicle Description (Year, Make and Model) below for more details.
Step 3
Click the “Calculate“ button.
Tips For Entering a Valid Vehicle Description (Year, Make and Model)
The vehicle information you enter into the form for year, make, and model MUST match a specific vehicle description in our database. You CANNOT type in the make or model. Instead, you must select the make and model from the options displayed. Please follow this procedure:
- First, ensure that you have entered a valid 4-digit model Year. To qualify for the Scrap-It program, your old vehicle must be 1995 or older. The model year of your chosen replacement vehicle must be 2004 or newer.
- Next, in the Make field, type the first letter of the vehicle manufacturer. You should see a list of vehicle manufacturers displayed. Select the appropriate one with your mouse or touchpad. Sometimes, the manufacturer listed in the database may be a parent entity such as GMC or Chrysler rather than Chevrolet or Plymouth.
- In the Model field, type the first character (letter or number) of your vehicle model. You should see a list of possible matches. Select the one that most closely matches your vehicle. If you don't get any matches, you can type “all” (without quotes) to see a list of all models in the database for the model year and make you entered. If you still don't see a match for your vehicle model, go back to the Make field and make sure you have entered the correct make for your vehicle (see the previous step).
- Finally, click the button labelled Calculate.
